Hardwood Floor Trim Installation for Winchester, VA

The trim around the outside of your house, whether it’s made of vinyl or wood, undergoes wear and tear. Trim in poor condition does not only look unsightly, but it can enable water to get beneath the surface and create more damage. While bad weather and other elements will inescapably cause damage, you can receive maintenance or completely replace trim, so your exterior looks more attractive. Call Handyman Connection of Winchester for trim repair and replacement.

Should I Replace My Home’s Exterior Trim?

The best way to check for trim issues is by walking around your house. If you see cracks, holes, broken, wobbly or deteriorating wood, you should call Handyman Connection of Winchester. We’ll then figure out whether your trim can be fixed or needs to be totally replaced. If wood isn’t rotting, significantly warped or majorly broken, a qualified contractor can make a few fast fixes to return trim to perfect form.

Trim Materials

Here are the materials we often use:

  • Wood: Wood is the most popular substance for exterior trim. Wood is available in either solid boards or finger-jointed pieces. Finger-jointed wood trim is simply shorter wood pieces that lock together. It’s easy to install wood trim and takes paint well.
  • Plastic: There are two main types of plastic trim, polyurethane and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Polyurethane is slightly pricier, but more dense and prepared to paint. PVC needs to be sanded before it can be painted.
  • Fiber-cement: Fiber-cement combines cement, sand and wood-fiber support. It’s tough, fire resistant and resistant to water and bugs. Fiber-cement trim is typically moisture resistant, which means paint will look good for years to come.
  • Laminated veneer lumber: Wood veneer layers come in a parallel granule and two veneer cross bands are covered by a medium density overlay to make this substance.
  • Hardboard: This trim is made from hardwood chips that are warmed with steam and water and then pressed into board stock. During pressing, lignin, that is part of wood, will begin to flow again and serve as adhesive to keep the board from separating. This makes the hardboard more immune to deterioration than wood.
