Exterior Trim Replacement Services in Martensville, SK

After a few decades, the wood or vinyl exterior trim around your windows and doors can begin to bend out of shape and decay. Old trim may look ugly, but it may also let in water beneath the surface and cause further damage. While bad weather and other elements will inevitably cause damage, you can make repairs and replace trim so your exterior looks more appealing. Contact Handyman Connection of Saskatoon for outdoor trim maintenance and replacement in Martensville.

Signs You Need Trim Replacement

As you stroll around your house, check for any cracks, holes, damaged, loose or decaying wood. This will help you establish whether your home needs simple repairs or if your trim needs to be replaced. If wood isn’t decaying, significantly misshapen or majorly damaged, a handyman can make a few fast fixes to restore trim to good shape.

Trim Options

Wood

Wood is the most popular substance for exterior trim. Wood is offered in either solid boards or finger-jointed sections. Finger-jointed wood trim is simply shorter wood pieces that lock together. It’s easy to install wood trim and holds paint well.

Plastic

Plastic trim comes in two forms, polyurethane and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Polyurethane is somewhat pricier, but slightly denser and prepared to paint. PVC must be sanded before it can be painted.

Fiber-cement

This is a combination of cement, sand and wood-fiber support. It’s resilient, fire retardant and immune to water and bugs. Fiber-cement trim is typically moisture repellant, which means paint will stick around for a long time.

Laminated veneer lumber

Layers of wood veneer in a parallel grain and two veneer cross bands are covered by a medium density overlay to create this material.

Hardboard

This trim is made from hardwood chips that are heated with steam and water and then pressed into board stock. During pressing, lignin found in wood will become present again and serve as paste to hold the board together. Lignin makes the hardboard more resistant to deterioration than wood.
