3 Ways to Make Your Home Smart

Modern home builds are all about having “smart” features.  Everything from lighting, to television, to cooling, to appliances are all automated and controlled by “smart” features that make use easy and make your home far more energy efficient.

Modern home builds are all about having “smart” features.  Everything from lighting, to television, to cooling, to appliances are all automated and controlled by “smart” features that make use easy and make your home far more energy efficient.  But, just because new builds are often featuring such smart devices and energy efficient features doesn’t meant that your existing home cannot feature them as well.  At Handyman Connection, we have a contractor or handyman that can assist you with updating your home to boast smart features that will save you money on your monthly bills and even make living in your home more enjoyable and convenient.  Below are 3 ways to update your home and improve it so that it is more “smart.”

  1. Smart Thermostat
    • A smart thermostat is a great investment for any home. Many smart thermostats will actually learn your heating and cooling habits and adjust themselves accordingly.  Further, they can often be synced with your phone so that you can control and program your thermostat from anywhere.  Forgot to turn your air conditioner off before a long trip?  No problem, simply do it from your phone.  Want to turn your heat back on 1 hour before you return home so your home is nice and warm once you arrive, no [problem – do it from your phone.  This will save you a significant amount of money that is often wasted on heating and cooling your home when you are not home or when you do not need it.
  2. Electronic Door Locks
    • Yes, your traditional locks can be replaced with electronic door locks. This means that you will never need to carry a house key or have to worry that you will be locked out of your home again.  Electronic door locks are easy to install and, once installed, it is simple to grant specific people access to your home without having to lend a key.  Are you heading out on a trip and want someone to collect your mail and put it inside? Or feed your pet?  Or check your home to make sure all is ok?  No problem!  Simply give them the access they need depending on your unique lock and don’t worry about lending out your keys.
  3. Smart Sprinkler System
    • Smart irrigation systems provide many benefits to a homeowner. Homeowners can optimize their irrigation based on soil moisture levels.  Further, some smart irrigation systems are equipped with the ability to receive local weather alerts and adjust their watering schedule accordingly.  This means that if a big, week-long storm is headed your way, your sprinklers won’t keep spraying and wasting water while the rain pours down.  Further, you can control and monitor your watering system remotely which is ideal for peace of mind.
