How to Resolve Low Water Pressure at Home

Experiencing low water pressure in your home can be frustrating. In the event you suspect that something is wrong with the water flowing out of your faucet, you can perform simple steps that will help you determine potential problems and resolve them as soon as possible.

Handyman Connection® of Grapevine, home of your local home improvement experts, discusses them below.

Ask Around the Neighborhood

Check on your neighbors, and find out if they are experiencing the same problem. That way, you learn whether the problem is in your home or instead related to the city or county water system. Give your provider a call for confirmation. From there, you can begin taking steps to remedy the issue on a city or county level.

Test the Water Pressure

Purchasing a water pressure test gauge would be helpful every time you notice changes in the water’s flow on your faucet. Before attaching the gauge to an outdoor hose spigot, turn off any appliance that might be using water like your washing machine or dishwasher. Once done, turn the spigot on to give you a reading. Ideal water pressure should be between 60 and 75 pounds per square inch. Lower than that, and you have low water pressure.

Check for Leaks

Water leaking from cracked or damaged pipes doesn’t just seep into areas of your home like the walls and ceiling. It also indicates reduced water pressure. Turn off all the water in your home, and then record the reading on your water meter. Wait for at least 20 minutes, and check the number on the meter. You have a leak if the meter reading has changed.

Leaks and other plumbing issues can compromise the water pressure in your home. As soon as problems arise, it is always a good idea to turn to the experts. Trust Handyman Connection of Grapevine for all your plumbing needs. Call (817) 533-4333, or fill out our contact form to request an estimate.
