Handyman Connection was approached at the fall home show by Sherwood Care Seniors Home and asked if we could re-build one of their shower rooms.
This room’s original purpose was to hold a bath tub for bathing residents. But the tub had been removed years earlier and the room was re-purposed as a storage room. Tenants in this wing (Memory Lane) had a small shower room that replaced the bath tub room. This shower room was small and cramped. It was inconvenient for both tenants and staff.
Sherwood Care worked on raising funds to turn the larger room into a shower room. This year, they received enough donations to make it happen.
Handyman Connection rebuilt the plumbing systems in the crawl space below, upgraded the supports under the room, removed old tile and replaced it with all new tile, installed an institutional grade anti-scald shower valve and designed and installed lots of custom stainless steel covers to protect walls, doors and people.
At the ribbon cutting ceremony, the plant manager at Sherwood Care said “this is the first time we’ve ever had a project come in on time and on budget”. He also expressed how pleased he and his maintenance staff were in Handyman’s willingness to involve them, the tenants and the staff in designing the new shower space.
