Problem: No Hot Water

If there’s no hot water coming from the faucets at all, then the problem may be due to the heater failing to actually heat the water. It’s important to determine what kind of heater you have though. If you have a gas water heater and it’s turned on, then you might want to replace the pilot light.

For electrical heaters, check if electricity is actually flowing properly to the heater. You might also want to check if there’s water in the compartment since the lack of water can cause thermostat malfunctions.

Problem: Hot Water is Too Hot

If you notice that the water is scalding hot even if it isn’t even turned on to full heat, then the water heater may not be shutting off at its right temperature. An easy way to tell this without subjecting yourself to scalding water is to listen carefully to the water heater and check if there are boiling sounds.

Another way to tell is if steam escapes from the faucet when you turn it on. To solve this, simply adjust the heater to a lower setting. If the problem persists, then we recommend you have our professional team take a look at it.

Problem: Discolored or Smelly Water

If you notice that the water smells or looks discolored when you turn on the heater, then the water supply may have minerals in it. Normally this wouldn’t be a problem, but hot water will melt these minerals and this is where the smell and discoloration comes from. Installing a water filter or softener in your water supply to solve this.
