Easy Tips on Beating the Summer Heat at Home

The summer season can be one of the most uncomfortable times of the year even if you’re in the comfort of your home. However, trying to cool things off just by cranking up the air conditioning unit is not a practical solution. This is why our home improvement experts recommend trying these out to keep your home cool during the warmest time of the year.

Bring Down Those Blinds & Curtains…

The bright, sunny view of the outdoors may be a sight for sore eyes, but letting all that sunlight through your windows can easily heat up the indoors. By bringing down the curtains or blinds on the most exposed windows of your home during daytime, you can cut down the amount of heat energy getting into your home. This is especially true if you’re running the HVAC since more heat from the sun means more energy required to cool the place.

…Or Open Those Windows!

In some cases, opening the windows can help keep your home cool off during a hot day. This is because the heat that builds up inside your home tends to stay inside. By opening a few windows, you create openings that can let the heat out and bring the cool breeze into your home. If you left the windows closed for a long time, our experts recommend opening them to let your home “breathe” for a few minutes before closing them back again and turning on the HVAC.

Switch to LED

Every source of light in your home is a potential source of heat energy. That being said, switching from “hot” incandescent light bulbs to LED can help reduce indoor temperatures. Aside from running “cooler” than incandescent bulbs, LED bulbs also use up less energy, which means you also get to improve your home’s energy efficiency.

Cook Outside

Did you know that a huge amount of heat from the stove is just vented into the air? That’s a lot of heat that can make your home a little less comfortable. During the warmest months of the year, it pays to take your cooking outside of the home. Besides, you could probably have some barbecue or grilled veggies one of these days.

These are just a few easy-to-follow tips on keeping your home a little bit cooler this summer. If you want even more home cooling ideas, our team of experts at Handyman Connection® can help you out. Call us at (208) 268-0088, or fill out our online contact form to get an estimate.
