5 Simple Steps to Organizing Your Closet

A messy closet doesn’t have to stay that way forever. You can quickly transform your closet from a mess to an organized haven by assessing what you have and removing the things that you no longer need. A well-organized closet is useful and easy to use. Handyman Connection® of Boise discusses how to organize your closet in five easy steps.

  1. Step One – It’s important to set up a staging area before you begin organizing your closet. The staging area will be the location where you will place and organize all of the things you take out from your closet. Organizing your closet requires that you remove everything, such as your clothes, boxes, piles of magazines, folded blankets and hangers.

  1. Step Two – If you are organizing a clothes closet, consider using a collapsible clothing rack to hang the clothes. This will allow you to easily see and organize your stuff. Don’t rush sorting out your things so you can make an accurate inventory of items.

  1. Step Three – Your inventory needs to have specific categories to make the process of organization easier. Group together similar items in boxes, piles or plastic containers. Keep track of all your things by using labels.

  1. Step Four – If there are too many items in a specific category, then you can make smaller categories of items. For instance, instead of just grouping clothes together, you can organize them according to season. We also recommend grouping small items together and storing them in jars to prevent them from getting misplaced.

  1. Step Five – Remove the items that should not be in that particular closet. Items that are hastily placed in the closet even if they aren’t supposed to be there can cause a lot of clutter. Make sure that the closet stores only a specific group of things, and return the items inside. Sell, donate or dispose of the items that you no longer need.
